Board of Directors

The Wilmar Volunteer Fire Department exists to serve our community and our residents.  As such, we are governed by two different Boards that work cohesively together.

The Wilmar Inc. Board of Directors, a 501(c)4 corporation is elected by the public at our annual business dinner each March. The five Directors provide the Fire Chief with direction and support in establishing strategic direction for the fire department. Donations to volunteer fire companies are deductible as charitable contributions on the donor’s federal income tax return, but only if made for exclusively public purposes.

The residents of the Wilmar Fire Department response area support the fire department through payment of a Mello-Roos tax.  In 1997 the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors established the WIlmar Community Services District, part of Sonoma County Service Area 40 (CSA40), to finance enhanced levels of fire protection services in the Wilmar Volunteer Fire Department service area.  A special election was held on June 27, 1997, with the voters approving the special assessment and the formation of the tax rate area.

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors appointed two residents to oversee the application of the tax revenue and guide how it is applied to the Wilmar Volunteer Fire Department's operations and administration.

Board of Directors meetings are open meetings and the public is welcome to attend.

Board Meetings for 2024/2025 are held in fire station training room.
